The colours and the gilding are bright and clear. There is one area of repair to the base of one of the panels - it appears as though there was a hole in the vase, which has been repaired with the sympathetic Japanese kintsugi method of using gold paint to enhance the piece and as a philosophy treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
